Summer Skincare | 2015

by - May 15, 2015

I suppose, as usual, I better start off this blog post with an apology. Once again I've been on a bit of a hiatus from the blogging scene, and once again I'm making a promise to be consistent. I know I say it everytime, and fail, but since I am officially finished with school, now is the perfect time to get serious about blogging. So with that said, here is my first post in a summer series I'm doing that will include everything from skincare to sangria recipes.

My skin has always been a bit of a problem for me, I have always had acne, and no matter what products I have tried (and believe me I have tried them all) nothing really seemed to be working for me. But I think (fingers crossed) I have finally found a skincare regime that works for me, and it's cleared up my acne a great deal.

This is my godsend. Frank Coffee Scrub is probably the best thing to ever come into my life, and I'm pretty sure this is a product I'm going to be using for the rest of my life. Exfoliation is super important when it comes to skincare, it's important to get rid of dead skin that builds up, and it also leaves your face feeling soft and smooth as a baby's little booty. However, keep in mind I don't use this everyday, as it can be pretty harsh for daily usage, but every other day or every couple of days keeps my skin fresh and soft!

I use about a handful of the scrub, and leave it on for 5-10 minutes. Usually however long it takes me to brush my teeth, dance around with my dog and rinse all of the coffee bits out of my sink. Once I've washed it off, I get to the actual washing of my face. My favorite product to use after my scrub is the Face Shop Herb Day Cleansing Cream in Aloe. Because it's a cream, it leaves my skin feeling extra soft, and since I've already exfoliated, I don't usually need a heavy duty face wash to get rid of the makeup on my face.

Next to last step is toner. I find an astringent to be a little too harsh on my skin, especially for the summer, so I opt for a purifying toner. It helps remove any last bit of makeup, dirt and skin residue, as well as tighten up the pores before I put moisturizer on. The Nivea Purifying Toner is incredibly soothing, as well as refreshing in these summer months.

Last, and maybe most important step of all is moisturizer. Correction, moisturizer with SPF, because as my mother often likes to point out to me (and I will admit she is, as usual, right) if I don't take care of my skin now when I'm young, by the time I get to her age I'll look like shit. So ladies, and men, make sure you are moisturizing daily, and be sure to get some SPF in there while you're at it.

C'est fini! Obviously this routine varies a little bit from morning and night, but you pretty well get the gist of things. Keep in mind that everybody has different skin, and what's worked for me, won't necessarily work for you. But the basics are there. Exfoliate, cleanse, tone and mositurize. Experiment, shop around and find the products that work best for you.
