5 Of My Favourite Places In Sydney

by - August 14, 2018

With my time in Sydney nearing an end, I've been thinking a lot about how much I am going to miss all the lovely spots in this wonderful city. The city as a whole is huge, and I by no means saw everything it has to offer. However, I did manage to find a few places that made Sydney feel like home. So I thought I would share with you, my five favourite places in Sydney.

1. Sydney Opera House & Sydney Opera Bar
Starting with the most obvious, and most touristy place - the Sydney Opera House. A must see for any tourist of course, but no matter how many times I visited, or saw it from afar, it continually took my breath away. And of course what better place to grab a drink, or pop some celebratory champagne than a bar with a view? And what better view could you have than that of both the Sydney Opera House AND the Sydney Harbour Bridge? I highly recommend that anyone coming to Sydney give themselves a couple of hours to explore the gorgeous opera house, and soak up the sun with a drink in hand, at the opera house bar!

2. Luna Park
Admittedly I'm not actually a massive fan of amusement parks or roller coasters. However, the first time I went to Luna Park I experienced something a little different. Much like the Opera Bar, I think much of it stems from the fact that you get to ride a roller coaster with the gorgeous Sydney skyline in the background. But I also discovered how fun Luna Park really was. I got to go around Halloween, when they put on a special scary themed event and everyone was dressed to the nines. I challenged myself to go on as many tides as I could handle, and it was an absolute thrill. And who can resist a chance to snap a picture outside the famous entry way?

3. Circular Quay to Darling Harbour Walk
Okay granted this ins't actually a place, but the walk from Circular Quay to Darling Harbour  is most definitely my favourite walk in all of Sydney. Its only about 30-40 minutes, but offers some of the most beautiful views of the harbour. Plus there are so many great spots for a photo-op. On the way is Barangaroo Reserve Park, which is a wonderful spot to have a picnic or do some star gazing should you find yourself there after sunset, and the rocks near the water are the perfect place to sit and actually watch the sun set. I cannot tell you how many times my friends and I have had our own little photoshoots along this walk, because every few steps is another gorgeous spot!

4. The Star Sky Terrace

So listen, I've actually only been here once, BUT it's still making its way on the list because of how much fun I had when I went. It's another bar (I like a weekend drink OK? Don't judge me!) but it's probably one of the most fun rooftop bars I have ever been to. They often put no events during the summer, and my friends and I happened to go when they were hosting a frose party. We somehow finessed our way onto the guest-list, which did not cost us a thing , and meant that we got $10 drinks, free food, a free candy bar and since we got there early we got the best seats! It will remain one of my most favourite weekends in Sydney, and if you ever get the chance to attend a party at the Sky Terrace, you will never forget it!

5. Manly Beach
Manly is probably my favourite place in ALL of Sydney. Far superior to Bondi in my opinion, every weekend spent at Manly was like living something out of a movie. The beach is gorgeous, and the people are so stereotypically Aussie which I absolutely loved. I could easily spend house laying on the beach, or sitting on the grass people watching. And of course there is always something yummy to eat just a short walk away. Not to mention there are some great shopping opportunities and a weekend market as well. If you can only visit one beach in Sydney, in my opinion Manly is the one you've got to go to. There is simply nothing better!

So there you go, 5 of my favourite places in Sydney, that I suppose kind of turned into "5 places you have to visit if you go to Sydney"!

Much Love,
Spense xx
